"We Outside” is a term that is used in the African American community meaning that we are presence at a location and we are having a good time. Also, it speaks to the fact that the photos were made outside and the pod is installed outside.

Duquann Swweney

Is a self-taught photographer born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. Sweeney is also the founder of The Royal Men Foundation, a non-profit organization that was founded in 2012.

As a photographer, Duquann is a part of a long list of Black photographers that carry a tradition of photographing Black communities showing the dignity and beauty within them. In 2021, Duquann had his first solo exhibition at Hoboken Historical Museum/Upper Gallery.

Drawing energy from the popular catchphrase that celebrates active, outdoor lifestyles, Jersey City photographer Duquannn Sweeney uses lens & film to capture the vibes of Bergen-Lafayette, where he was born and raised. We Outside is a two part outdoor exhibit, with installations at Newport and Grove Street Plaza.
